The point is ladies and gentlemen that greed, for lack of a better word, is good.  - Gordon Gekko

Like Gordon Gekko, I don’t think Michael Jordan is consumed with money. If anything, money is merely a conduit for what really drives men like Jordan and the fictional Gekko: power. Michael Jordan’s pathological need to win is way more important than actual money. The same goes for Wall Street’s Gordon Gekko (and regrettably Wall Street 2). Money is what allows you to claim victory and consolidate power. Michael Jordan doesn’t need any more money. But this lockout is simply an extension of his running match with the world to win at absolutely everything. The same traits that made Michael Jordan the GOAT, prevent him from the role as negotiator that can set aside his ego to make sure the NBA season is saved.
Gordon Gekko couldn’t save his relationship with his wife, daughter or his son-in-law* when he had a pathological need to be “the guy,” in finance; Both before and after his incarceration. Gekko and Jordan need to win way more than they need money.
*not that anyone would want Shia Ledouche as a son-in-law.
